The new Segway APEX H2 electric hybrid motorcycle

04/12/2021

Segway has undergone an image overhaul in recent years. And now it proposes Segway Apex H2, in the hybrid motorcycle concept formula, a model that many want to see in production.

Under the new parent company, Ninebot, the brand has substantially expanded its product range. And now includes products from electric bikes to electric scooters.

According to the company, the Segway Apex H2 electric motorcycle would use a suspension system similar to James Parker's Rotationally Advanced Design Development (RADD). One that we find on the GTS 1000 and the Morpho concept from Yamaha. Sure, you'll remember the public's reluctance to adopt Parker's RADD system. An already notorious thing. But Segway, a name that has paved the way, could change things with this futuristic sportbike.

Along with the radical design of the suspension, Ninebot will have another problem. The fact that it aims to use both electricity and hydrogen to power the Segway Apex H2. This means we need a network to replace the canisters with hydrogen (it reminds us of the times when we were looking for soda capsules). Or gas stations. However, given that power station infrastructure is not developed either, relying on alternative energy sources can now be an obstacle rather than a benefit. But this is the future.

Segway claims that the hybrid motorcycle will produce 60 kW (80 hp), accelerate from zero to 100 km / h (62 mph) in four seconds and reach a top speed of 150 km / h. Autonomy has not yet been revealed. All that is known is that the Segway Apex H2 burns one gram of hydrogen per kilometre. And the announced price of 9,000 euros could also short-circuit the path to customers of many current flagship electric motorcycles.
